Nollywood Filmmaker, Mbadiwe Emeka Sentenced To 5 Years For Dr¥g Tr@fficking In Lagos

U.S.-trained Nollywood filmmaker Mbadiwe Emmanuel Emeka has been sentenced to five years in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos for tr@fficking 17.30 kg of Canada Loud, a powerful strain of Cannabis Sativa.

The National Dr¥g Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) charged the filmmaker with two counts of unlawful importation of the prohibited narcotic, and he entered a guilty plea to both charges before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa imposed the punishment.

Before the verdict, counsel for the anti-narcotic agency, Abu Ibrahim had notified the court that Emeka was arrested on December 24, 2024, during an inspection of an incoming cargo shipment at the National Handling Company (NAHCO) Import Shed, located at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

While stating that the shipment, originating from Houston, United States, was discovered to contain the illicit dr¥g, the lawyer stated that Emeka had enlisted the help of Uzoekwe Ugochukwu James to facilitate the ill€gal importation.

His acts were punishable under Section 11(a) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and in viol@tion of Section 21(1)(e).

Emeka pleaded  guilty. After he entered his plea, the court allowed the prosecution to show evidence, which included the iPhone 12 Pro Max, confessional testimonies, the majority of the dr¥g that was seized, and other pertinent exhibits.

Following a review of the evidence, the prosecution urged the court to find Emeka guilty and p¥nish him in light of the overwhelming evidence and his guilty plea.
