Irv Gotti Dies at 54

Irv Gotti, legendary music executive and co-founder of Murder Inc. Records, just died at the age of 54. Gotti was born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr. on June 26, 1970 in Hollis, Queens, New York City. He was the figure behind the hip-hop and R&B scenes of the late 90s and early 2000s.

According to reports, Gotti had been dealing with diabetes for years and had a minor stroke in early 2024 but was said to have recovered. However, the cause of his de@th has not been disclosed.

Since the news spread, passing tributes have been pouring in from industry peers and fans. Def Jam Recordings where M*rder Inc. was housed confirmed his passing and acknowledged his contributions to the industry.

Gotti co-founded M*rder Inc. Records in 1998 under Def Jam Recordings and was responsible for launching the careers of artists like Ja Rule, Ashanti and Lloyd. His production credits include Ja Rule’s “Between Me and You” and Ashanti’s “Foolish.”

Throughout his career Gotti worked with a wide range of artists including Jennifer Lopez, DMX, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Fat Joe and Eve to name a few. He also ventured into TV with the BET series “Tales.”

Despite facing legal troubles including a federal investigation in 2003 he was acquitted and continued to work in the music industry. His legacy is his innovative approach to blending hip-hop and R&B. He will be missed.

Gotti is survived by his three kids Angie, JJ and Sonny. His family requests privacy at this time as they mourn the loss of a father and industry icon.
