Afrobeats singer Timaya, known for his hit songs like “Dem Mama,” has raised an urgent alarm about the situation in his home state of Bayelsa, where herders are reportedly destroying farmlands.

The singer took to his social media on Tuesday to express his concern and frustration over the growing issue, calling on the government to take swift action.
Timaya’s cry highlights the rising conflicts between farmers and herders in Nigeria, a problem that has been particularly severe in the southern regions, including Bayelsa.
Farmers in these areas have been facing losses as herders, often with their cattle, graze on farmlands, destroying crops and leaving farmers with little to nothing.
This destructive practice not only jeopardizes the livelihoods of local farmers but also exacerbates food insecurity in the region.
In his tweet, Timaya emphasized the urgent need for the government to intervene. “Please the government should do something. They are destroying farms in Bayelsa.
“Aboki, take your cow inside and feed them. This is so sad,” he wrote. Additionally, Timaya voiced his opposition to open grazing, a practice that has long been a source of contention in Nigeria.
He advocated for ranching, urging herders to adopt more modern, sustainable methods of cattle rearing that would prevent damage to farmland and reduce the likelihood of conflict.
