Wole Soyinka is a well-known Nigerian playwright, poet, and essayist.
full name is Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde Soyinka. He is from the western Nigerian town of Abeokuta, which is in Ogun State, close to Ibadan.
His mother, Grace Eniola Soyinka, often known as “Wild Christian,” was a local activist and shopkeeper, while his father, Samuel Ayodele Soyinka, was a well-known Anglican preacher and headmaster.
He grew up in an Anglican mission family, where he was influenced by his grandfather’s Yoruba spirituality and tribal customs as well as his parents’ Christian beliefs.
Soyinka is renowned for both his literary accomplishments and his proactive engagement with social and political issues. In 1986, he became the first African to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
