With the United States of America election coming up, Donald Trump is set to face Kamala Harris of the Democratic party. Many have been asking when is the US 2024 election will be. 

Following Joe Biden’s victory in the race against Donald Trump, the Democratic Party will face a difficult fight against the former United States president. 

When is the US 2024 election?

The US 2024 election will be held next month on Tuesday, Nov 5, 2024.

The winner of the 2024 election will serve four (4) years in the White House, starting from their inauguration on January 20, 2025.

Voters will be electing not just a president, but Congressional candidates for seats in the House of Representatives and the US Senate.

The election might seem to be one of the toughest in the United States because the margins between the states aren’t much.

Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Nevada have been a stronghold for the Democratic party, they contributed in Joe Biden winning the presidential election in 2020.

However, Florida and Ohio have proven to be for the Republicans in the previous elections.

What happens on election day?

In recent elections, the majority of voters go to the polls and ballots are counted. Many people may have already cast their vote ahead of time using the postal voting system or early voting.

After polls close, Votes are counted in each state. Poll close times depend on the state but all polls are expected to begin counting votes from 7pm local time.

The range of time zones across the US means that on the East Coast, ballots will have been tabulated while voters in states like Alaska and Hawaii are still making their way to the polls.

When do we get the election results?

The winner of the election will likely not be projected for days. Even then, the results are not properly finalized for months. 

However, states and the whole election result are typically “called” long before the final votes are counted. 

In 2020, the result was called for Joe Biden four days after the November 3 ballot, after Pennsylvania’s result was confirmed. 

The state provided Biden with 20 electoral college votes, taking him over the 270 required to win. In 2016, Hillary Clinton conceded to Trump the morning after the election.
