“We have seen hell, Fubara frustrating us”- Rivers Assembly cries out 

The Rivers State House of Assembly has publicly accused Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara of frustrating the implementation of a crucial Supreme Court ruling, particularly the part of the ruling that mandates the governor to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

The Assembly, through its spokesperson Dr. Enemi Alabo George, has openly called on the public to hold the governor accountable for his alleged disregard of established due processes and his attempts to shift public sentiment against the lawmakers.

Dr. George, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, clarified the Assembly’s position in a statement made on Sunday in Port Harcourt.

He revealed that, contrary to the governor’s claim, the House had never received any official correspondence from Fubara regarding the presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

In a public statement made during a stopover on his way to Ogoni for an event, Governor Fubara reportedly mentioned that he had sent a letter to the House to communicate his intention to present the bill.

However, the Assembly dismissed this claim, stating that no such letter had been received.

The situation became even more contentious when the governor’s aides allegedly claimed to have forwarded the letter through WhatsApp.

The Assembly criticized this method as “awkward, unprofessional, and embarrassing,” emphasizing that such informal communication was not only unfit for a matter of such importance but also deeply troubling.

The Assembly further demanded that the governor produce an acknowledgment copy of the letter or any other form of proof to substantiate his claim.

Dr. George also took the opportunity to address the broader grievances of the Assembly, recalling the significant hardships they had faced under the current administration.

He revealed the burning of their chamber, the destruction of the House of Assembly Complex, and the attack on the Speaker’s residence, all of which he attributed to the governor’s actions.

“Yet, despite all of this, we remain committed to serving the people of Rivers State,” George said, showing the importance of moving forward for the sake of the state’s future.

He also emphasized the Assembly’s dedication to ensuring that pensioners, teachers, and other vital sectors of the state’s economy receive their due support, despite the ongoing challenges.

In response, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Barrister Joseph Johnson, rejected the Assembly’s accusations, suggesting that the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly was consistently denying any actions related to the governor’s initiatives.
