“We have enough petrol for local demands”- Dangote assures Nigerians

Aliko Dangote, the Nigerian industrialist and owner of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, has reassured Nigerians that the country’s fuel supply is secure, revealing that the refinery has sufficient stock to meet local demands.

In a statement made over the weekend, Dangote confirmed that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has over half a billion litres of refined petroleum products in storage, with more than N600 billion worth of fuel in its tanks.

Speaking during a tour of the refinery by Zambia’s Minister of Energy, Makozo Chikote, Dangote expressed confidence in the facility’s capacity to supply enough petrol, diesel, and kerosene to fulfill 100 percent of Nigeria’s national requirements.

He stated, “As we speak right now, we have more than half a billion litres. The refinery is producing enough refined products to meet Nigeria’s needs.”

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, located in Lekki, Lagos, is one of the largest single-train refineries in the world, with a capacity to refine 650,000 barrels of oil per day.

This makes it a critical player in Nigeria’s energy landscape, ensuring that the country’s reliance on imported refined products is reduced.

With more than half a billion litres of fuel in storage, Dangote’s refinery plays a crucial role in bolstering fuel security for the nation.

Dangote also emphasized that the refinery’s operations go beyond Nigeria, serving as a key asset for the African continent.

Aligning with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), he shows the refinery’s potential to boost regional trade by supplying petroleum products to other African countries.

“We must sustain the AfCFTA deal. We are trying to see how we can trade with other African countries,” Dangote remarked.

Zambia’s Minister of Energy, Makozo Chikote, who visited the Dangote refinery along with a delegation of experts, praised the facility’s vast potential to address energy challenges across Africa.

He revealed Zambia’s private sector-driven approach to the petroleum industry and expressed interest in forming energy partnerships with Dangote.
