President Donald Trump announced today that he has ordered precision airstrikes against an ISIS attack planner and associated terr0r!st in Somalia. The Golis Mountains in northern Somalia have long been an ISIS stronghold. The rugged terrain gives the insurgents an advantage, making military operations difficult. The recent airstrikes were to take out their positions and disrupt ISIS’s ability to operate in the area.
In his statement, President Trump said the operation was precise and planned to avoid civilian h@rm. He said,
“This morning I ordered precision Military air strikes on the Senior ISIS Attack Planner and other terr0r!st he recruited and led in Somalia. These k!ll*rs, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies.
The strikes destroyed the caves they live in, and k!ll*d many terr0r!st without, in any way, h@rming civilians. Our Military has targeted this ISIS Att@ck Planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did! The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that “WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL K!LL YOU!”
However local sources are reporting civilian casualties. Amnesty International has previously raised concerns about civilian h@rm in US military operations in Somalia and called for greater transparency and accountability.
The Somali government has welcomed the US operation and acknowledged the ISIS threat in the region. The federal government has been working with international partners to counter extremist groups and stabilize the country.
This operation shows the ongoing challenges in Somalia. While we target and k!ll leaders, minimizing civilian h@rm and good intel is key to keeping local support and long-term stability.
