The Lagos State Government to start emergency repairs of the Independence Bridge
The Lagos State Government is set to start emergency repairs of the Independence/Mekwen Bridge (inbound Marina/CMS route) for two months, starting from Wednesday, March 19th, to Monday, May 26th, 2025.

In a statement issued on Sunday, March 16th, 2025, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, rolled out diversion plans. He stated that during the repairs, the section of the road from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) through Bonny Camp Bridge to Independence Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic.
Similarly, the Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge service lane inbound Independence Bridge will be unavailable to motorists.
However, the service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe will remain open to traffic.
Motorists heading to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way are advised to use Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, proceed to Falomo Roundabout, and then link Obafemi Awolowo Road to access Ring Road.
For those heading to the 3rd Mainland Bridge, the recommended route is through Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road, and then Ring Road.
Motorists heading to Inner Marina and CMS will also be diverted to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, with connections to Falomo Roundabout, Obafemi Awolowo Road, and J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, reassured Lagosians that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will manage traffic flow along the aforementioned routes for the duration of the project.
