“I Have Pride – A Real African Man Should Have Pride” – Yul Edochie Says

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie recently spoke on his personality and acknowledged pride is part of being an African man. In a recent post, he noted that someone asked him if he knows he has so much pride and he said “Yes I do”. He explained that a true African man who knows his heritage and worth should be proud and never yield to anything or anyone.

This is in line with Edochie’s consistent advocacy for African traditions and spirituality. In January 2025, he publicly declared he’s a traditionalist and criticised people who abandon their indigenous beliefs due to societal pressure. He said “I will never abandon the ways of my forefathers. It’s built on truth, transparency and fairness. I’m a hardcore traditionalist”

Edochie has also spoken about the erosion of African cultural identity. He said many Africans are more familiar with biblical figures than their own ancestors and urged people to reconnect with their roots. He said, “We have been brainwashed to know everything about Moses, Isaac, Jacob and the people of Israel. Yet we know nothing about our ancestors, their exploits and the great people in our lineage”

Fans and followers have reacted mixed to Edochie’s stance on pride and traditionalism. Some are commending his love for culture while others are questioning his consistency especially with his previous declaration of Christianity. One social media user said “Only you actor, politician, pastor, native doctor, real estate owner afar relax ooo” Another said “I thought you claimed to be a pastor the other day and said God called you. Nawa!”

Despite the mixed reactions Edochie is still standing by his beliefs and is urging Africans to embrace their heritage and be proud of who they are.
