Peru launches an investigation over Singer Shakira’s medical records leakage

Peruvian government has launched an investigation and thre@tened sanctions after singer Shakira’s medical records were leaked on social media following her treatment at a Lima clinic. The clinic could face fines of up to $430,000 for the breach.

Recall that the 48-year-old Colombian singer was admitted to the emergency room last Saturday due to an abdominal condition, leading to the cancellation of her scheduled concert on Sunday, February 16th, 2025.

Shortly after her hospitalization, details of her medical report surfaced online, sparking public outrage and prompting an official probe.

A spokeswoman for Peru’s national health service watchdog confirmed the investigation was underway, with officials meeting clinic representatives to discuss the breach. The process is expected to take 25 days.

The Delgado Clinic, where Shakira was treated, condemned the leak as a “serious ethical breach” and announced internal disciplinary action against those responsible.

Despite the incident, Shakira resumed her world tour, performing in Lima on Monday night. She expressed gratitude to her fans, thanking them for their love, care, and patience.

Her tour, titled ”Las mujeres ya no lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), began in Rio de Janeiro shortly after she won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album.

The ”Hips don’t li3” singer dedicated the award to migrants in the United States facing deportation under President Donald Trump.

With over 90 million records sold worldwide, Shakira remains one of the most celebrated Latin artists ever.
