NYSC to Pay N77,000 Allowance to Corps Members from March 2025
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that corps members will start receiving N77,000 monthly allowance from March 2025. This was disclosed by the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu during an interactive session with corps members at NYSC Zonal Offices in Wuse and Garki, Federal Capital Territory.

The increase in allowance is a demonstration of the NYSC and Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of corps members. Brigadier General Nafiu assured the participants that “From March, you will be getting N77,000 as your monthly allowance”. He also assured that NYSC is efficient in financial management and payments will be made promptly.
This is in line with the Federal Government’s approval in September 2024 to increase the allowance from N33,000 to N77,000 following the passage of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024. The new allowance was supposed to start in July 2024.
To make this possible, the Federal Government allocated N430.7 billion to NYSC in the 2025 budget with N72.9 billion for corps members’ allowances. This is to ensure the sustainability of the new stipends.
Despite the approval and budgetary allocation, the payment of the new allowance has been delayed. As of February 2025, corps members are still receiving the old stipend of N33,000. This has caused concern and appeals for timely implementation. National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) even called for an investigation into the delay, saying corps members are feeling the pinch of the rising cost of living.
Brigadier General Nafiu responded to these concerns by saying “I thank you for your dedication and service to the nation. Remain calm, disciplined, and focused on your national assignments. We will take care of you. NYSC is a platform to expose young graduates to different cultures and traditions in Nigeria”.
Corps members are thrilled with the announcement. At Garki Zone, Corps Member Zaka Deborah Alheri thanked the Director-General for ensuring the prompt implementation of the new allowance and appreciated the NYSC leadership for taking care of them.
