Northern CSOs knock Natasha, declare support for Akpabio
A coalition of six Northern-based Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has voiced its support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio while rejecting the s£xual allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti.

In a statement signed by Comrade Mustapha Jibrin Musawa, the group described Akpoti’s claims as baseless and a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation and career of the Senate President.
The CSOs, including prominent groups such as the Arewa Good Governance Forum, Peace and Unity Forum in the North, and the Progressives Movement for Development, expressed concern over the timing of the allegations.
They highlighted that such distractions were especially harmful in a period when Nigerians are desperately seeking legislative action to alleviate the burden of a harsh economy.
According to the coalition, the allegations appeared to be a deliberate effort to derail the Senate’s progress under Akpabio’s leadership, which they see as key to advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for the country.
The statement further condemned Akpoti’s accusations, emphasizing that they came from a person who had once been close to Akpabio, describing him as a “family friend and benefactor.”
The CSOs suggested that the accusations were part of a broader political scheme to unseat Akpabio and install a more compliant figure in his place someone who could potentially undermine the achievements of the current government.
In their defense of Akpabio, the CSOs pointed to his strong track record of public service, his leadership in the 10th Senate, and the positive relationship he has cultivated with colleagues and the public.
They argue that the Senate, under Akpabio’s leadership, has displayed maturity and competence, challenging initial perceptions about the National Assembly’s effectiveness.
They further stated that such allegations of s£xual harassment against Akpabio were an “aberration” given his longstanding reputation for integrity and service to the nation.
The coalition concluded by calling for a full-scale investigation into the allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti.
They strongly condemned what they described as “sponsored propaganda” aimed at damaging Akpabio’s character, urging the public and the government to see through these distractions and focus on the important work of governance.
