“Senate doing the needful”- Says Remi Tinubu on Natasha’s suspension

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has shared her thoughts on the controversy surrounding the Senate. Speaking out on Thursday, the first Lady emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity of the Senate, calling for an atmosphere of respect and honor within the chamber.

In her statement, delivered by her spokesperson, Bukola Kukoyi, on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the First Lady expressed her confidence that the Senate was acting appropriately in light of the allegations.

While acknowledging the current situation, she insisted that the Senate should remain a space of decorum and respect, emphasizing that such allegations should not be part of the discourse within the hallowed halls of the Nigerian Senate.

“I know with what is going on in the Senate, you may say, why am I not taking a position? I believe that the Senate is doing what is needful because that’s what it is,” she said, signaling her belief that the Senate is taking the necessary steps to address the issue.

She further stressed the gravity of the Senate’s role, noting that the institution should be a mature space where individuals are treated with respect.

Oluremi, who herself served as a senator for 12 years, highlighted her experience in the chamber, emphasizing the honor of being part of such a prestigious institution.

She recalled being frequently complimented during her time in office and reiterated the importance of maintaining a professional and dignified atmosphere in the Senate.

Her remarks were not just focused on the current controversy, but also addressed broader issues of women’s empowerment and leadership.

As International Women’s Day approaches, she took the opportunity to encourage Nigerian women to assert their leadership positions and to reject any attempts to be undermined.

“Women, raise yourself, don’t be in a position that men will be talking to you anyhow. You can always shut them down before they start,” she advised.
