Mark Angel breaks silence on state of emergency, reveals why Rivers people shouldn’t protest 

In a video message that ignited reactions on social media, popular comedian Mark Angel has urged the residents of Rivers State to stay clear of protests against the recently declared State of Emergency in the state.

The declaration, made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, involves the suspension of the state’s governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The president also nominated Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the Administrator to take charge of the state’s affairs for the next six months.

Mark Angel, a Rivers-born comedian, addressed his fellow residents in a video posted on his Instagram page, advising them not to get involved in protests planned by certain groups in reaction to the suspension. 

According to Mark, the issue at hand is a “government vs government” dispute, where the Federal Government and the state government are having a fallout.

He emphasized that the fight between these two levels of government is not the concern of the general public, especially the youths of Rivers State.

Angel’s message was clear,  the people of Rivers State should not waste their time and energy fighting a battle that does not directly concern them. 

He compared the situation to a personal quarrel between two people, where outsiders should not get involved. He pointed out that the situation had been predicted in his comedy skits but was initially dismissed by many as a joke.

Now that it has become a reality, he urged the people of Rivers to stay calm and let the politicians settle their differences without interference.

The comedian further reassured the public that as long as they can continue going about their businesses peacefully, the political squabbles of the elites should not affect their daily lives.

Mark was bold in his stance that protests would not lead to any positive outcome for the average Rivers resident.

He even went as far as to state that if the military were to rule the state for the next 10 years, it wouldn’t be the people’s fight to protest, so long as peace is maintained.

Mark also made an important point about how Governor Fubara came into power, suggesting that the public knows the circumstances surrounding his election and, by extension, the political machinations that led to his suspension.

“Don’t allow anybody to convince to go for any protest. Nothing like ‘We no go gree.’ Na lie, we gree. Na dem know wettin dem do to get into power, na dem still know wettin dem go to maintain the power.

So, we agree [witth the State of Emergency]. The military should secure everywhere. Don’t follow anyone to protest.” he said.
