“How to Get Rich In Nigeria” – Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi
Nigerian media personality and entrepreneur Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi recently shared her thoughts on the fastest way to get rich in Nigeria. She wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) page, “If you want to be rich and famous fast in this country, you have to lose your home training/shame/morals. Is that the kind you want though?”

Gbemi’s statement shows the sacrifices some people might make in their quest for quick success. Her question makes us think if that’s the kind of path we want to take.
This isn’t the first time Gbemi has spoken on societal behaviors. In a past chat, she mentioned her cautious approach to online interactions with high-profile individuals. On the Menisms podcast, she said she didn’t answer direct messages from certain people because of privacy breaches. She said, “When I was single I didn’t answer. My phobia was they would screenshot the conversation and give it to a big chat.”
Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi has worked in various aspects of the media industry. She was born on July 18, 1984, and is from the Olateru-Olagbegi royal family of Owo in Ondo State. Her educational background took her to Oakland University in Michigan, USA where she got a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and International Studies. After returning to Nigeria, she furthered her education at Pan-Atlantic University, got a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management.
Professionally, Gbemi’s voice is well known on Nigerian airwaves through her work at Cool FM and The Beat 99.9 FM. She won Radio Presenter of the Year at the 2008 Dynamix Awards and Best Female Radio Presenter at the 2009 Exquisite Lady of the Year awards. She went into entrepreneurship with the launch of Gbemisoke Shoes in 2015.
