Grammy winner Roberta Flack di£s at 88 after battling ALS

Legendary singer and Grammy Award winner Roberta Flack has passed away at the age of 88.

The music star, known for her unique voice and timeless hits, Flack’s influence on music has been existing more than five decades until now.

According to a statement from her media personality, Flack di£d peacefully on Monday, surrounded by her family. While the exact cause of d£ath was not disclosed, she had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, since 2022.

Flack’s impact on the music industry was profound. She was a pioneer in the “quiet storm” radio format, which helped shape R&B’s modern sound.

Her unforgettable songs, including “Killing Me Softly With His Song” and “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” earned her multiple Grammy Awards and implemented her legacy as one of the most influential artists of her time.

Beyond music, Flack was deeply connected to social movements. She had close ties with civil rights leaders, including Reverend Jesse Jackson and activist Angela Davis to mention but a few.

Born on February 10, 1937, in Black Mountain, North Carolina, Flack displayed musical talent from a young age.

At just 15, she earned a music scholarship to Howard University, where she honed her craft before launching her professional career.
