Governorship Not Family Inheritance’ – Lagos PDP Rejects Seyi Tinubu Endorsement
The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly opposed the reported endorsement of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a potential governorship candidate in Lagos. The PDP declared that leadership positions, especially that of the governorship, should not be treated as family property or handed down through inheritance.
The controversy broke after reports emerged suggesting that influential figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos were lobbying for Seyi Tinubu to contest in the state’s 2027 gubernatorial election. This triggered misunderstanding among opposition parties, with the PDP leading the charge in criticizing what it termed “dynastic politics” and an attempt to subvert democratic principles.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, PDP spokesperson in Lagos, Hakeem Amode, stated, “Governance is a serious responsibility that requires competence, vision, and experience, not familial connections or entitlement. Lagosians deserve leaders chosen on merit, not as a result of nepotism.”
The PDP also accused the APC of prioritizing the personal interests of its elite members over the needs of Lagos residents. Amode further urged Lagosians to reject what he described as an emerging “monarchical trend” in politics and called for a leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
In response, APC leaders in Lagos have remained largely silent on the issue, while some supporters have dismissed the reports as speculation. However, the PDP has vowed to resist any move to impose Seyi Tinubu or any other individual without a transparent democratic process.
