Governor Fubara Rejects Politics of Division, Commissions Road Project in Wike’s LGA
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged politicians to prioritize public welfare over personal or political interests, emphasizing the need for governance to benefit the people regardless of political affiliations.
The governor made this statement on Tuesday during the inauguration of Okocha Road in Rumuolumeni, Obio Akpor Local Government Area, the hometown of Nyesom Wike, former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The gesture comes amid ongoing political tension between Fubara and Wike over control of the political structure in Rivers State.
Despite their differences, Fubara highlighted the importance of fulfilling the government’s responsibility to serve all communities.
“My advice is: politics is not all about who is supporting you or who is against you. Politics should also include attending to the needs of the people,” Fubara said.
“If I was an evil person, I would say, ‘I wouldn’t come here,’ considering the nature and location of this place. But governance is about putting smiles on the faces of our people, not settling political scores.”
The governor recounted the struggles of residents in the area, many of whom faced years of poor road infrastructure.
By commissioning the road, Fubara emphasized his commitment to improving the quality of life for all citizens, irrespective of their political loyalties.
“This road removes tears from the faces of the people living here,” Fubara said. “The living conditions were unimaginable, but to the glory of God, those challenges are now history. Today, you can see joy on the faces of the people here.”
The governor also thanked the residents of Rumuolumeni, many of whom are non-indigenes, for their support during his election campaign. He expressed gratitude for their belief in his administration and assured them of continued efforts to improve their living conditions.
