Fubara vows purposeful Governance amid Rivers crisis

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reiterated his commitment to purposeful governance aimed at protecting lives, property, and providing essential amenities for the people of the state.

 His remarks came during the inauguration of the newly renovated Fire Service headquarters located at Mile 1, Port Harcourt, near Isaac Borough Park, on Tuesday.

The event highlighted the government’s efforts to address a crucial need in the state adequate emergency response.

Fubara’s statement revealed the core principles of governance, ensuring safety, improving infrastructure, and meeting the people’s needs.

This understanding has shaped the direction of his administration, which he emphasized would focus on people-oriented projects.

The rehabilitation of the Fire Service headquarters is a key example of this vision in action. The newly upgraded station is equipped with modern firefighting equipment and facilities, positioning the state to respond more effectively to fire emergencies.

The governor recalled several instances where the state’s emergency response capabilities were severely lacking, with tragic consequences.

He pointed to the devastating losses in the Mile One Market and Fruit Garden Market, both of which were destroyed in fires that the fire service could not respond to swiftly due to inadequate equipment.

Fubara’s words painted a vivid picture of the past struggles faced by the state. “We lost a lot of lives and property in fire incidents because we could not respond adequately.”

This situation has now changed, as the newly renovated fire station is set to significantly enhance the state’s emergency response capabilities.

 Fubara noted that previously, the state had relied on multinational companies like Agip and Shell for quick intervention.

However, the new station, fully equipped with everything needed to tackle fire emergencies, ensures that the state can handle such crises independently.

Fubara also took pride in a recent incident where the fire service swiftly responded to a tanker accident along the Woji-Elelenwo Road, effectively containing the situation. 

He emphasized that the renovations were not about glamour, but about building a functional, effective facility to serve the people of Rivers State.

The governor further explained that his administration’s approach was not driven by the need to please critics, but by a genuine commitment to improving the lives of Rivers people.

“We are not interested in whether those commissioned to undermine us are unhappy,” Fubara said. “Our business is about Rivers State and its people.”
