Edo State Governorship Inauguration: Senator Monday Okpebholo Takes Over as Edo Governor

During the just concluded Edo State governorship inauguration, The Governor-Elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, was  sworn in as the 6th elected governor of Edo State.

This is coming after several weeks of being elected to take over from Godwin Obaseki, the former governor of Edo State

The Edo State governorship inauguration was an interesting one, as Godwin Obaseki was reported to have ran out of the country, less than 72 hours to the end of his administration

Sen. Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  Barr. Asue Ighodalo and that of the Labour Party Barr. Olumide Akpata, in the September 21 governorship election.

His deputy, Hon. Denise Idahosa was also sworn-in as the Deputy Governor of the state

Dignitaries including Vice president Kashim Shettima, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, Philip Shaibu, the reinstated deputy governor of Edo, and other governors from the APC were in attendance at the Edo State governorship inauguration

The duo were sworn-in by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daniel Okongbowa.

Speaking at the Edo State governorship inauguration swearing in, Okpebholo said:

“Today, you have officially given me the mandate to preside over our dear State as Governor for the next four years.

“We will not betray this confidence you have reposed in me and the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa.

“Let me start by thanking God Almighty for His grace and incredible blessings. Democracy has triumphed again in our dear State.

“For me, this is a humbling moment; made possible by you all.

Again, I want to use this opportunity to thank you for your peaceful conduct during the 21st September 2024 Governorship Election.”
