In a touching Instagram post, Toyin thanked the fans for massive support, taking time to partially address how industry players get by incentivizing some movie lovers.
According to her: “With an overwhelming outpouring of love, kindness, and compassion from fans all across the country, we were able to make this as our opening weekend figure. Thank you for watching and supporting us.”
Not mentioning any names, it is quite understood that actresses like Funke Akindele and Mercy Aigbe had encouraged the audience with gift items during cinema showings to increase attendance.
Toyin added: “Without expecting gift or inducement at the box office to buy our tickets, you’ve stood by us, and we are deeply grateful.”
She also spoke about a concern on the side of distribution: “However, we’ve learned that #AlakadaBadAndBoujee isn’t showing in many cinemas.”
Concluding her message, she urged fans to continue their support: “Nigerians, thank you from the bottom of my heart! This support means the world to me. Please, let’s keep the momentum going—spread the word far and wide, Alakada Bad and Boujee! Is showing in all the cinemas. I love you all endlessly.”
“Alakada: Bad and Boujee” is the latest successful release and is known for its comedic portrayal of societal issues.
The film’s impressive box office performance underscores Toyin Abraham’s enduring appeal and the franchise’s popularity among Nigerian audiences.
The Alakada series has had a history of box office successes so far.
The 2017 film “Alakada Reloaded” earned ₦50 million in its first week, becoming one of the highest-grossing Nollywood films of that year.
The franchise’s success continued with “Fate of Alakada: The Party Planner,” which grossed over ₦100 million within 53 days of its release in 2020.
This achievement was particularly notable as it became the first theatrical release following the COVID-19 shutdown, signaling a strong recovery for the Nigerian film industry.
As “Alakada: Bad and Boujee” continues its run in cinemas nationwide, the film’s success reflects the robust state of Nollywood and the audience’s appreciation for stories that blend entertainment with social commentary.
Toyin Abraham’s gratitude towards her fans highlights the importance of audience support in the thriving Nigerian film industry.
