A transgender woman seeks legal action after her gender was corrected to male on her passport
A transwoman who was born male seeks legal redress after her new passport came in the mail and she was identified as “male” despite undergoing full surgery to look like a woman.
In the video, the transwoman, named Perysian Zaya Mekhi, showed her passport bio page, revealing that a photo of her looking like a woman was used but “M” was chosen as her gender.
She said, “In case you’re wondering what it’s like being transgender under this new administration, I just got my new passport in the mail, and they changed the gender to male because of Donald Trump.”
She added that all of her other documents identify her as female, and she has been fully surgically altered to become female.
She read out the reason the passport office gave for changing her gender.
They wrote to her: “The s3x was corrected on your passport application. The changes were made for one of the following reasons: to match our record.”
Zaya stated that the only record that ever identified her as male was a passport she had when she was much younger.
“So, basically it doesn’t matter that all of my other documents say female and that I’ve had my s3x change surgery, if you’ve had a passport in the past that displays the opposite s3x, then they will not honor your gender change,” she explained.
“I will be seeking legal action,” she added.
She asked lawyers who are experts in handling such cases to reach out to her.
She said that refusing to choose female as her gender in her passport puts her in danger when traveling and she will ensure she seeks legal redress.
