Peter Obi sends message to Adeleke amid de£th sentence intervention

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has praised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for his intervention in the recent de£th sentence handed down to a young man in Osun State for the theft of a fowl and eggs.

The incident that has kept the young man in prison for the past 14 years has sparked controversy from the public domain as many Nigerians condemned the Osun State legal system for such inhumane acts.

Adeleke’s timely action prevented the inhumane sentence of de£th by hanging, revealing his empathy and commitment to justice as a governor.

Obi, a vocal advocate for justice, commended this intervention, describing it as a “rare act of compassion and leadership.”

“This case underscores the harsh inequalities of the Nigerian legal system,” Obi said.

“We live in a system that rewards impunity and punishes integrity. If you embezzle billions of public funds, you are celebrated. If you dare to speak freely, you are silenced. Meanwhile, those pursuing legitimate businesses are burdened by oppressive regulations.”

Mr. Obi’s comment shows the frustration many Nigerians are feeling while allowing the elites to escape accountability.

He further emphasized the urgent need for reforms to ensure fairness and accountability across all levels of government.
