“You’re A Chronic Betrayer, PDP Presidential Ticket Can Never Be For You” – Wike’s Aide Tells Atiku

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ignited a political firestorm by publicly accusing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of being a “chronic betrayer.” The statement, made in a widely circulated post, came in response to Atiku’s alleged efforts to secure the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket for the 2027 elections.

Olayinka, known for his sharp rhetoric, declared that the PDP’s presidential ticket would “never be for” Atiku, citing the former vice president’s history of political defections and controversial decisions as evidence of his disloyalty. “Atiku has betrayed every political platform he has been part of, from the PDP to the APC and back. Such a man cannot unify Nigeria, let alone lead it,” Olayinka said.

The remarks have triggered a cascade of reactions on social media with the Supporters of Atiku have condemned Olayinka’s comments, describing them as divisive and baseless. Many argue that the former vice president’s efforts to secure the presidency in past elections demonstrate resilience and dedication to Nigeria’s democracy.

Conversely, Wike’s supporters have applauded Olayinka for “speaking truth to power,” emphasizing that Atiku’s alleged betrayals have cost the PDP unity during critical electoral periods.

Political analysts suggest that this escalating feud signals deeper divisions within the PDP, particularly between factions loyal to Atiku and those aligning with Wike. With the 2027 elections still years away, the controversy shows the ongoing struggle for control within Nigeria’s leading opposition party.
