Ademola Adeleke rallies support for Agboola Ajayi ahead of Ondo Gubernatorial election
A riveting political development that occurred on the 5th of November 2024 was a political campaign held in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State, where Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke was actively supporting the governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party, Agboola Ajayi, for the upcoming governorship election on the 16th of November.
This campaign was not only a manifestation of solidarity among people of Osun origin living in Ondo State but also an articulation of political power and social feelings that defined the election.
The mobilization of support for Agboola Ajayi
The event was characterized by a large turnout of influential Osun indigenes ready to declare total support for Ajayi. Adeleke, who went to Ondo State to support Ajayi during his campaign, spoke to the crowd with a call for his kinsmen to support him. He urged them to ensure Ajayi’s victory by exercising their franchise. He noted;
“All the things they didn’t do in 12 years, we have done in two years in Osun”
This statement was a direct call on the people to vote for him and his party to continue with the good works that were alleged to have been ignored by the past government in Osun.
Adeleke’s speech was more than a mere endorsement; it was a call to order. He called on the Osun indigenes to mobilize their communities, adding, ‘Go and tell them we are supporting your governor (Ajayi)
This was a call on the electorate to not only come out and vote but also to be awake and guard their votes on the election day.
In his introduction, the governor expressed his confidence in Ajayi’s experience, saying
“Agboola Ajayi understands politics; he is experienced up to the grassroot level. He would repeat the wonders in Osun in Ondo.“
This assertion was designed to convince the voters of Ajayi that there should be no doubt of the candidate’s capacity to govern efficiently.
Vision of Agboola Ajayi for Ondo State
While giving his account of the state’s future under the leadership of Ajayi, Adeleke was able to draw a brighter picture of Ondo State.
He said the PDP had brought ‘light’ to Osun State and therefore wanted the same feat to be replicated in Ondo. With these words, echoing recourse to faith and a positive outlook, he said:
“If we trust in God, everything is possible.”
Many attendees received this message with enthusiasm and an appetite for change and development in their state.
In return for the support of Adeleke, Agboola Ajayi appreciated the gesture and vowed to provide democracy dividends to the people of Ondo State. He appreciated the support of the people of Osun and assured them of his comprehensive solutions to peculiar difficulties troubling the state in the event he is voted for. He was to introduce government welfare, and the organization of his government was to ensure that everyone was catered for irrespective of his or her status.
Adeleke was not sparing in his words for the All Progressive Congress (APC), the party currently in power in Ondo State. He criticized them for having no proper vision and development strategies and instead seeking exclusive control of power out of the interest of the citizens. Through their concentration on political power, these men seem to have caused suffering to millions of Nigerians, irrespective of their class or religion. He urged the people to support a new leadership in order not to repeat previous failures.
