Legal Consequences Loom for Illegal Migrants as Trump Proposes Fines and Jail Sentences

President Donald Trump has Proposed that ill£gal immigrants who do not register with the federal government face hefty fines, possible jail time, or both.

The directive was release by the  Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday.

“The Trump administration will enforce all our immigration laws — we will not pick and choose which laws we will enforce. We must know who is in our country for the safety and security of our homeland and all Americans,” a department spokesperson said.

All foreign nationals over 14 who were not fingerprinted or registered when they applied for a US visa and who have stayed in the country for 30 days or more must register and be fingerprinted, according to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

According to the website, the Department of Homeland Security will provide proof of registration to immigrants who have registered and been fingerprinted; these documents must be carried at all times by those who are over the age of 18.

Trump ordered the department to make sure that immigrants register with the federal government after he proclaimed ill£gal immigration at the Mexico border a national emergency upon his return to office last month.

The government has attempted to end the One Entry program, which was implemented during the previous Biden administration.
