Kwankwaso denies power-sharing deal with Atiku and Peter Obi ahead of 2027 elections
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former Kano State governor, has denied any agreement with Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi regarding a power-sharing arrangement ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The former Kano State governor clarified that no deal was made for Atiku and himself to serve four years each, with Peter Obi following for eight years as president.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso condemned the interference of a select group of northern elites who, he claimed, act as self-proclaimed leaders of the region.
He criticized their involvement in manipulating the selection of presidential candidates, arguing that it disrupts democratic processes and undermines the people’s ability to choose competent leaders.
“This oppressive thing they are doing is causing discord in the community,” Kwankwaso stated. He argued that leadership decisions should be based on merit and truth, free from favoritism.
“Elders in the North and West should stop showing favoritism in bringing out candidates,” he said.
He reflected on the 2019 elections, where seven presidential candidates emerged from the Northwest. He suggested that this divisive approach stems from a lack of genuine leadership and collective vision for the region.
The senator also criticized leaders for prioritizing their interests over the welfare of their communities. “Instead of promoting us, who are their children, they go and show favoritism,” he stated.
