Wizkid born July 16 1990 in Surulere Lagos Nigeria. In an interfaith home with twelve sisters, he was the only son of Alhaji Muniru Olatunji Balogun a Muslim and a Christian mother. Growing up in Surulere exposed him to different musical influences and he found his passion for music at a young age.

Wizkid started music at 11 when he joined a local church group called the Glorious Five. They recorded an album and that was his first step into the music industry. Despite his family not supporting his music career, he was determined. He attended Ijebu Ode Grammar School in Ogun State but dropped out to focus on his music.
Rise to Stardom
In 2009 Wizkid signed a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). His breakthrough came in 2010 with the release of “Holla at Your Boy” the lead single from his debut album Superstar (2011). The album made him a household name and he won several awards and nominations. His subsequent albums Ayo (2014) and Sounds from the Other Side (2017) solidified his position in the music industry.

Wizkid’s collaboration with international artistes has been the major reason for his global recognition. He featured on Drake’s “One Dance” in 2016 which went worldwide and his 2020 album Made in Lagos received critical acclaim, the single “Essence” featuring Tems was a global hit and he got a Grammy nomination which was a big milestone in his career.
