“Why I’m not married, yet to have kids”– Ruggedman opens up 

Veteran Nigerian rapper Michael Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has opened up about his personal life and the decisions that have kept him from marriage and fatherhood.

During a recent episode of TVC’s Your View Pidgin, the 51-year-old rapper shared insights into his choices, providing clarity about his relationship status.

One of the key reasons Ruggedman gave for not being married or having children yet is rooted in a vow he made during his younger years.

He explained that he promised himself never to father a child out of wedlock, a decision he has maintained throughout his life.

“I am not currently in any relationship, nor am I married, and I do not have a child yet. When I was much younger, I vowed never to have a child out of wedlock,” he shared.

Ruggedman also reflected on the complexity of parenthood, emphasizing that having children is a significant responsibility that requires unwavering commitment.

He pointed out that raising a child should not be an impulsive decision but one made with someone he truly loves.

For him, becoming a parent is not just about biology; it’s about providing the right environment and love for a child.

The rapper didn’t shy away from admitting that, at times, he questions whether his decision was right or wrong. The weight of this choice is not lost on him, but he remains steadfast in his conviction.

“Parenthood requires commitment from both parties,” he reiterated, revealing the need for mutual understanding and genuine affection before bringing children into the world.

In his reflection, Ruggedman also revealed that his career in the entertainment industry may have played a role in shaping his personal decisions.

As he entered the entertainment scene, the focus was primarily on his career, which sometimes led to him neglecting personal relationships.

“I blame entertainment a little because when we came into the industry, we didn’t know much our focus was just on entertainment,” he said.

Additionally, Ruggedman recounted a conversation with a friend who made a statement in pidgin that seemed to resonate with him: “Make person never go use him, wife, to do girlfriend.”
