Unexploded Explosives Recovered in Maiduguri
The Nigeria Police Force’s Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit has successfully recovered unexploded explosives in Maiduguri, Borno State. This follows reports from vigilant and concerned members of the community.
Responding to the reports, a specialized team was deployed to secure the affected areas and safely removed six unexploded explosives, one mortar b0mb, and a military hand gr£nade.
The explosive devices were discovered in the Dala Kacchallah area and the Gwange Riverbank.
This occurred on Saturday, November 22, 2024. The Police Force HQ released an official statement saying, “All ordnances were safely evacuated without any loss of life, injury, or property damage, and normalcy has been restored.”
They furthermore said “In both instances, the EOD-CBRN team safely removed the ordinances, declared the areas safe, and conducted explosive risk awareness campaigns to sensitize residents.”
Commending the professionalism and quick response of the Specialized Unit, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has assured Nigerians of the Force’s commitment to ensuring public safety and security.
The police are currently investigating the origin of the unexploded explosives and taking steps to prevent future incidents.
The public is urged to report any suspicious objects to the authorities immediately.
The Inspector General of Police also noted that the specialized team in Borno State has been consistent in responsiveness and professionalism in preventing calamities.
