Uche Maduagwu Blasts Veekee James Over Single Women Remarks

Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu has called out fashion designer Veekee James for her recent comments to single women. James who is a successful fashion brand owner and social media influencer shared a video call with her husband Femi Atere where she said single women remain unmarried because they are looking for the ideal partner.

She said “This could be you and somebody’s son but you like your men tall and handsome with perfect set of teeth, 100% financial responsibility, impeccable dress sense, very spiritual yet with a touch of bad boyness.”

Maduagwu replied by asking her why she is using her marital status to advise single women. He said individual preferences vary and one’s personal experience should not be a standard for all. He said “Stop making it look like marriage is a designer dress that fits all. The kind of man wey you want fit be man wey be say Nigerians go dey laugh at am. They go dey laugh am for social media. That is the kind of man you like but some ladies don’t like their men like that.”

This has generated a lot of conversation on social media about societal expectations and the pressure on single people. Many are supporting Maduagwu’s view that personal choices in relationships should not be judged. Veekee James who got married to Femi Atere in February 2024 shares her personal life online and while some love her for being open, others feel her recent comments is perpetuating stereotypes about single women and the pressure to marry.

Maduagwu who is known for being outspoken has spoken on this issue before, advocating for individual freedom and warning against making marriage look like the ultimate goal. He has asked public figures to think about the audience they are speaking to.
