Trump stops HIV funding for Nigeria and other developing countries

Funding from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to Nigeria and other developing nations was halted by the US State Department for a minimum of ninety days.
Only the emergency humanitarian aid and military funds for Egypt and Israel are exempt from these new regulations.
Speaking on the ban, the State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, said: “The United States is no longer going to blindly dole out money with no return for the American people.”

Former President George W. Bush first unveiled the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in 2003 with the goals of preventing HIV/AIDS, saving lives, and slowing the virus’s spread.
With a yearly budget of $6.5 billion, PEPFAR assists in providing HIV/AIDS medication to over 20.6 million individuals.
However, this policy’s funding has been halted after President Trump’s executive order on foreign aid on the 20th of January, 2025.
