Trump and Putin Starts Ukraine Peace Negotiations

In a big move, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have decided to start negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. This comes after a very good phone call between the two leaders where they both agreed to peace and outlined plans to visit each other’s countries. High level US officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be part of these talks and will coordinate with NATO allies. Russia said any peace deal must meet all of Putin’s conditions.

President Trump posted about the call on his Truth Social. He said:

“I just had a long and very good phone call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. We talked about Ukraine, the Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, the power of the Dollar, and other things. We both looked at the Great History of our Countries and how we fought together so successfully in World War II, remembering that Russia lost tens of millions and we lost so many!

We both talked about the strengths of our respective Countries and the great things we will do together. But first we both agreed we want to stop the millions of deaths in the War with Russia/Ukraine. President Putin even used my Campaign slogan “COMMON SENSE”.

We both believe very strongly in it. We agreed to work together closely including visiting each other’s Countries. We will also have our teams start negotiations immediately and we will start by calling President Zelenskyy of Ukraine to inform him of the call, which I will do now.

I have asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of the CIA John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Ambassador and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to lead the negotiations which I think will be very successful. Millions of people have died in a War that would not have happened if I were President but it did happen so it must end.

No more lives should be lost! I want to thank President Putin for his time and effort on this call and for the release yesterday of Marc Fogel, a great guy I met last night at the White House. I think this will work out bigly.”
