Tiwa Savage reveals why she chooses not to sign new Artists

Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage, recently opened up about her decision not to sign up-and-coming artistes.

In an interview with Forbes Africa, the 45-year-old singer shared insights into her thoughts on artist management and why she prefers a different approach when it comes to supporting new talent.

According to Tiwa Savage, one of the primary reasons she does not sign new artists is that she feels she lacks the “gift” to manage their behaviors effectively.

The challenges and attacks within celebrities in the entertainment industry which most times make managing an artist’s career and personal conduct can be a significant challenge.

Tiwa admitted that, while she has a strong passion for helping others, the stress and responsibility that comes with managing the image and behavior of new artists is something she feels she isn’t equipped for.

Her decision highlights the often-overlooked aspect of the music business, the role of an artist manager. It’s not just about talent; “It’s about guidance, discipline, and sometimes, crisis management” she said.

Tiwa reflected on the pressures she would face if she were to take on that role, noting that it would be stressful to wake up and find one of her signed artists embroiled in some kind of controversy.

Instead of signing new artists directly, Tiwa revealed a more constructive solution, building a music school.

She shared her vision of creating a space where young, aspiring musicians can learn the craft of music, hone their skills, and later sign with labels that are better equipped to handle the business side of their careers.

Tiwa’s plan is to focus on offering guidance, support, and education to these talents rather than the responsibility of managing them full-time.
