Timini Egbuson Laments the Monetization of Love and Dating
Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has spoken out about the trend of monetizing love and relationships, especially among women. On TVC’s “Your View” recently, the actor said love and dating have become all about financial transactions.
He said many women think a man’s love and commitment are directly tied to how much he can spend on them. He noted that this belief system has created a culture where financial gain takes precedence over emotional connection and relationships lack real affection. He also noted that while men with money can buy their partners expensive gifts and luxury experiences, that should not be seen as love.
Timini went further to say that the monetization of relationships has made some financially successful men develop a nonchalant attitude toward women. According to Egbuson, many of these men feel since they have the money, they can easily replace any woman who doesn’t meet their expectations. He further said that wealth gives them so many options, so they don’t value the emotional depth of a relationship.
He said: “The nonchalant attitude of some men is because there are a lot of women available to them. You know, once you have money, you have a lot of options. And that’s also because a lot of women have monetized dating. Some men know that when they spend heavily on a woman, she will think they are in love with her. But that’s not love because he’s a billionaire, he can do the same thing for hundreds of women.”
Beyond his comments on the monetization of relationships, Egbuson also spoke about his struggles with love. In an interview with Kamsi Nnamani, he said despite putting his heart into relationships, they always end up not working out. He said for him, inner peace in a relationship is more valuable than physical attraction.
He continued that physical beauty might attract someone at first but peace of mind sustains a long-term relationship.
His comments have generated reactions from fans and social media users with many saying modern relationships have changed a lot due to financial expectations.
