As a di£-hard Chelsea fan, Frank Khalid still remembers the shock and disappointment of that fateful match between Chelsea and Arsenal in the year 2000.
They were cruising with Chelsea having a 2-0 lead against Arsenal, only to witness a stunning turnaround courtesy of a Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu.
Kanu’s 15-minute hat-trick left Khalid, and countless other Chelsea fans, devastated.
Little did he know that fate had a surprise in store for him. Just two days after that heartbreaking match, he was working at his Cash and Carry store when no other person than Kanu himself walked in with a friend.
Khalid couldn’t believe his eyes!
The same player who had shattered his team’s dreams just 48 hours earlier was now standing in front of him, shopping for groceries.
Khalid shared that as their eyes met, Kanu broke into a wide smile. He couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of Khalid wearing a Chelsea shirt.
But what struck Khalid most was the warmth and kindness Kanu showed, despite being a rival player.
Khalid said they chatted like old friends, and he was touched by kanu’s humility and graciousness.
That encounter of meeting with Kanu one on one left a lasting impression on Khalid.
