T£nsions rise as APC seizes control of Local Governments in Osun State
Officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) resumed their takeover local government secretariats moves across Osun State on Wednesday.

This move, aimed at putting control over the councils, has raised concerns about the rule of law and the integrity of democratic institutions in the state.
Celebritynote indicate that the APC officials forcefully took over several local government areas, including Obokun, Ife-East, Odo-Otin, Atakumosa-West, Orolu, Ejigbo, Ifelodun, and Ilesa-West.
These councils, once under the control of opposition parties, were taken over without much resistance, though police presence was reported in some areas, such as Osogbo and Olorunda.
Interestingly, some of the councils were left unpoliced during the takeover, which further raised questions about the state of law enforcement during these political crisis.
The political takeover did not go unnoticed by local government officials, with the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly describing the action as illegal and an affront to the rule of law.
In a statement to the press, the Speaker condemned the invasion, calling it a direct att@ck on democratic institutions and a flagrant violation of the law. He emphasized that the forceful occupation of these secretariats was not only unlawful but also a threat to public peace and order.
“What occurred today is a dangerous act of political aggression,” the Speaker said, adding that the presence of security agencies during the i!!egal takeover was even more alarming.
He accused law enforcement agencies of complicity in the unlawful actions by failing to prevent the invasion. His words reflect the cri$is between the ruling party and opposition factions, with concerns over the politicization of security forces.
The incident in Osun shows the political t£nsion between the APC and opposition groups, particularly in the context of local government control.
While the APC maintains that the takeover is a legitimate assertion of power, the opposition argues that such actions threaten the democratic framework and constitutional integrity of the state.
