Spotify 2024: Asake and Ayra Starr Shine as Nigeria’s Most-Streamed Artistes
Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has reclaimed his position as Spotify’s most-streamed Nigerian artist for 2024.
This marks the second consecutive year the “Mr. Money With The Vibe” hitmaker has topped the prestigious list, solidifying his place as one of the most influential figures in Nigerian music.
The news broke on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, as Spotify Africa released its annual “Spotify Wrapped” report, which provides insights into the streaming habits of listeners around the world.
Asake’s consistent chart-topping hits, including Amapiano and Joha, have resonated with fans globally, earning him this reputation.
In the female category, Ayra Starr, the popular “Sabi Girl,” emerged as the most-streamed Nigerian female artist for 2024. She was followed closely by Grammy-winning singer Tems and the iconic Tiwa Savage.
The group of three continue to shine as trailblazers in the Nigerian and international music scenes, with hits like Ayra Starr’s Rush, Tems’ Free Mind, and Tiwa Savage’s Stamina.
Among the male artists, Asake’s reign was closely followed by Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido, who have all maintained their positions as global ambassadors of Afrobeats.
Burna Boy’s I Told Them album, Wizkid’s More Love, Less Ego, and Davido’s Timeless have been instrumental in keeping their fans engaged throughout the year.
The glad tidings have triggered reactions from fans.
“Asake deserves it! His work ethic is unmatched. Ayra Starr is also a queen for holding it down for the ladies!” said by a fan.
Contrarily, the rankings also sparked curiosity as a fan of other artists who didn’t make the top spots asked “Where’s Rema? He gave us Calm Down and deserves more recognition.”
