“Sharia Law is gradually expanding into all South-West states” – Omotayo Williams Cries Out

A Nigerian Human Rights activist, political analyst and commentator, Omotayo Williams, has brought again a deep seated worry to his X handle.

The worry is hanging on the spread of Islam and the establishment cum inauguration of shari’a council across the Nigerian states especially in the South.
During campaign of 2022 in preparation for the 2023 general election, Omotayo Williams had predicted that “in exchange for northern votes, Tinubu shall pledge to the supreme council of Shari’a to expand the reach of shari’a law to southern states if elected.”
He continued, “with Muslim-Muslim Ticket shari’a law will be enacted and enforced in south West starting from Oyo and Ogun states.”
The above tweet was made as far back as August 4, 2022.
Recent happenings around the spread of Shari’a laws led to the recalling of this previous tweet.
This was necessitated by the recent inauguration of Shari’a Panel in Ekiti state, holding their very first meeting and weighing into a marriage dispute in the first sitting.
This, according to Omotayo Williams, will lead to more entrenchment of Shari’a Law, ideals and practices in the south West spreading to south-south begining from Edo then to South East, he wailed.
This has sparked heated reactions from netizens,
“South East will start from Imo State.”
“As long as it will only be applicable to their Muslim counterpart, no wahala, they should go ahead but if they try to use it to disturb another people’s business, small issue fit come”
“You want to politicize this issue. I guess Oyo state you mentioned is APC?
How does Edo state being APC means shariah law will be expanded there?
We can make projections and state facts but let’s refrain from politicizing issues”
“If any of my biological brother or sister in southeast think of supporting or becoming a Muslim, not to talk of sharia law , I will send 🪓 them to God first”
“Lol. You must be delusional to think sharia law will work in Edo state 😂😂”
“South-East? Maybe when there’s no name called Nigeria, south-East is not Yoruba that Hausa/Fulani foooock anytime they want”
“It can succeed in every state, but it will never see the light of the day in the South-East. I trust my people and their actions.”
“Will it replace the laws we have here? Will sharia law be binding on me that is a Christian? I don’t know how they want to push this sharia thing in the south to have any effect.”
“Unpopular opinion: It could be that these APC guys wants to Islamize Nigeria one way or the other. Cos, what tf is this?
Hmm, Muslim-Muslim ticket 🤦🏽♂️”
“The customary court will be gazing from the window because they will be sharing customers now.”
Is Nigeria on a trail for Islamization? What impact does Shari’a Law have on a Christian dominated area? Is it bad for a religion to push and lobby to expand their reach? What counter program can other religions do to forestall their frontiers? These questions a more are begging for honest answers.
