Yesterday, the Nigeria Police revealed that Inspector Edith Uduma had been f!red for misconduct and collusion in the alleged ræpe of a 17-year-old female suspect by Abraham Uzuobo.

Remember how Uduma was the Charge Room Officer, CRO, on duty on October 7, 2024, when a Police Sergeant was accused of r@ping a female suspect in the station in a video that went viral on social media?

The Edo State Police Command’s comprehensive investigation revealed that the v!ctim had been taken from the scene by the Police Sergeant, Sgt. Abraham Uzuobo, according to a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi.

“A comprehensive investigation into the matter conducted by the Edo State Police Command revealed that the Police Sergeant, identified as Sgt Abraham Uzuobo, had taken the v!ctim from the cell and taken her to an unoccupied office, where he attempted to engage in s€xual acts with her,” stated Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement.

“Uduma had entered and recorded the act while it was happening.

“However, she expl0ited the situation to further her own financial gain rather than promptly documenting the incid£nt in the Station’s Incident Record, which was under her jurisdiction, and then reporting it to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, so that disciplinary action could be taken against the negligent officer.

She phoned her husband, Ibrahim Mohammed, a Police Inspector, and the two of them planned to illegally d€mand N1 million from the Sergeant in order to help him hide the situation. “But the Sergeant only offered N45, 000 in cash, which they took at the time. A few days later, they contacted the Sergeant to ask for the same N1 million, but the Sergeant said no.

“They chose to report the negligent officer to the DPO and post the video on social media at the same time because they were unhappy with his unwillingness to carry out the bl∆ckmæil. Since there was no desire to obstruct justice, everyone responsible in this instance has received the proper punishment.

“The negligent Sergeant has been fired, charged, and is presently being held in jail while the trial goes on.

“Due to her involvement, Inspector Edith Uduma was also fired, and her complicit husband was demoted to sergeant. “It is essential to correct the record and give clear context regarding her actions and the decision to dismiss her from service,” the Force said, noting that since her dismissal, Mrs. Edith has made a number of baseless claims about her innocence and attempted to d@mage the integrity and reputation of the Police authority, the Inspector-General of Police in person, and the entire Police Force.

According to comprehensive investigations that provided indisputable proof of her failure to promptly report the incident, attempt to hide an offender for personal gain, engage in extortion, and m@nipulate the legal system for her own benefit, former Police Inspector Edith Uduma’s dismissal was not only warranted but also required.

“The Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, bl∆ckm@il, and any behavior that seeks to pérvert the cause of justice.”

The Nigeria Police Force, led by Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, is opposed to any misconduct, especially in cases of this serious nature involving vûlnerable v!ctims.
