President Tinubu Celebrates Tems’ Grammy Win, Congratulates Nigerian Artists
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian music star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on her recent Grammy Award win. He is proud of her and all the Nigerians who were nominated for the Grammy awards.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Tinubu congratulated Tems for winning the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, ‘Love me jeje’. He also congratulated other Nigerian artists who were nominated for the Grammy awards for their contributions to Nigeria’s growing presence on the global music stage.
He wrote, “Congratulations to temsbaby on winning the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, ‘Love me jeje’. I am proud of her and all Nigerians who were nominated for the Grammy awards. They inspire us all. Congratulations!”
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards held on Sunday saw Tems win the Best African Music Performance category with her song “Love Me Jeje”. She beat other Nigerian big boys, Burna Boy and Davido who have also played a big role in making Afrobeats a global force.
Tems’ win cements her place as a global music icon. This is her second Grammy win, she won her first for her contribution to Future’s hit song “Wait For U” featuring Drake in 2023.
The singer-songwriter has been on a roll since she broke into the mainstream music scene. Known for her unique voice, soulful melodies and deep lyricism, Tems has gotten recognition from global icons and has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Wizkid. Her contributions to Afrobeats and R&B has taken Nigerian music to new heights, many international fans are now embracing the genre.
Tinubu’s recognition of Tems’ success shows the growing presence of Nigerian artists on the world stage.
