Portable Granted ₦2 Million Bail After Pleading Not Guilty to Assault Charges

Controversial artist Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable has been bailed by Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The bail is ₦2 million after Portable pleaded not guilty to charges of assault on government officials.

Portable was charged with 5 counts of conspiracy, assault and conduct likely to cause public harm. The charges were brought against him after he and his boys allegedly attacked officials of Ota Zonal Planning Office of Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development who were on duty at his bar, Odogwu Bar in Sango-Ota. The officials were allegedly attacked when they got to his bar to perform their duty.

Before he was arraigned, Portable had surrendered to Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) after being declared wanted by Ogun State Police Command. He was then transferred to Ogun State Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta where he was held until his court appearance.

During the court proceedings, Portable’s lawyer Oluwatoyin Ayodele applied for bail, stating that “he is now remorseful and has learnt his lessons”. Magistrate O.L. Oke granted him bail for ₦2 million. The case was adjourned to March 5th.

9 of Portable’s boys were also arraigned in a related development before the same magistrate on similar charges. They were accused of being part of the assault on the government officials. The court granted each of them bail of ₦5 million with sureties to be licensed bond agents registered with the state government. Their case was adjourned to March 17th.
