Osimhen was right to stay at Galatasaray – Amuneke backs Nigerian striker’s decision
Former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amuneke has praised Victor Osimhen’s decision to remain at Galatasaray despite strong interest from top European clubs during the January transfer window.

The Nigerian striker, currently on loan from Napoli, turned down offers from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea, choosing instead to honour his commitment to the Turkish club.
In an interview with Africafoot, Amuneke emphasized that staying at Galatasaray was the best decision for Osimhen at this stage of his career.
“I think he made the right decision to stay at Galatasaray during the winter transfer window and not rush into transfers, despite multiple interests,” Amuneke said.
“He has been massively welcomed and appreciated in Turkey, and it is only important that he thanks them with gratitude.
He was able to regain his full potential, and all this is due to the fact that he was given a chance when he quarreled with the people of Naples.”
Osimhen moved to Galatasaray last summer on loan after a fallout with Napoli’s management. While clubs like Chelsea and Saudi Arabian sides expressed interest, the 26-year-old rejected their approaches due to personal terms.
Although his loan agreement included a January exit clause, Osimhen made it clear in November that he would stay until the end of the season.
“I will not leave in January; I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season. I do not know what Galatasaray and Napoli are talking about afterwards, but if they come to me, we will talk,” Osimhen stated.
His decision has been crucial for Galatasaray, who currently lead the Turkish Super Lig. Osimhen has delivered 12 goals and four assists in 16 league matches, along with five goals and one assist in six Europa League games.
Despite Galatasaray’s efforts to keep Osimhen permanently, Napoli have rejected a €65 million bid, insisting on the full €75 million release clause.
Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, remains firm on the valuation, making Osimhen’s future beyond this season uncertain.
