Olajumoke Orisaguna Breaks the Internet With Her Return to Runway Modelling
From being tagged “the bread seller”, Olajumoke Orisaguna claimed the spotlight. Now she is a model who went from accidental fame to tenacity and reinvention. Olajumoke just made a stunning return to the runway at a recent fashion show here in Lagos.
Olajumoke first shot into the limelight was in 2016 when she accidentally stumbled into a photo session featuring a visiting British rapper, Tinie Tempah. The photo session was taken by one of Nigeria’s finest photographers, TY Bello. That fortunate accident changed her life from hawking bread on the streets of Lagos to adorning magazine covers and signing modeling deals.
But life still wasn’t all smooth for this young model. For years after being discovered, Olajumoke was being exploited and mismanaged by those who were to help her rising career blossom. The other day, she spoke to the media on behalf of the Cardinal Foundation, on how poor financial management and lousy decisions tested her relationship with the two key mentors in her life, Azuka Ogujiuba and TY Bello.
Olajumoke spoke of how her former manager mismanaged her wages from all those lucrative modeling opportunities. “I didn’t know how much I was meant to be paid,” she said, adding that her experiences served as a word of caution on education and independence. “If I had been educated, I couldn’t have been cheated,” she said, encouraging parents to make sure their children went to school.
Of late, Olajumoke’s life has started getting better. With the services of her old mentor Azuka, she continued her career by investing in new projects, including her internship with City 105.1 FM, where her radio show would go on air, Kílón Shéle. Her return to the runway only brings a new phase in her life, and shows just how resilient and determined this young lady is at making it against the odds.
Some social media users celebrated her return with mixed comments, defending her usual style and confidence, whereas some others critiqued her runway techniques. However, after all that, support was the loudest of all, and lots of congratulations came for seeing her to shine bright after all the life storms.
From being an ordinary bread seller to a celebrated face in fashion and media, Olajumoke’s story is really an inspiring tale of hope and overcoming-perhaps a reminder that second chances sometimes make for extreme makeovers.
