“No Future in Nigeria, Nothing Will Make Us Return” – UK-Based Couple
A Nigerian man, who relocated to the United Kingdom with his wife in 2022, has shared his reasons for leaving the country, stating that there is “no future” in Nigeria and that nothing could make them return. The couple, who are currently settled in the UK, spoke exclusively with Vanguard, shedding light on their decision to leave and their life in the foreign land.
The man, who works as an executive work coach in the UK civil service, highlighted the stark contrast between opportunities available in the UK and the limited prospects they faced in Nigeria. “There is no painful experience for me so far,” he said, emphasizing how much easier life had become since their relocation. “No future in Nigeria, nothing will make us return” – UK-based couple
He went on to describe the UK as a place of equal opportunities, where every individual has the potential to build a brighter future, regardless of their background.
Recalling the challenges they faced before making the move, the man acknowledged that their decision to leave Nigeria was not without sacrifices. The couple had to leave behind their families, careers, and a familiar life. Despite these challenges, he believes the decision has paid off, citing the financial and professional stability they have enjoyed since settling in the UK.
When asked about his willingness to assist other Nigerians looking to leave the country, the man responded cautiously. “I do not know yet,” he said, leaving the door open to the possibility but not committing to helping others “japa,” the popular term for migrating abroad.
The man’s story mirrors the experiences of many Nigerians who have sought better opportunities abroad in recent years, a trend that has been on the rise.
