Nigerian Soldier Dismissed for Phone Theft Days Before Promotion

A Nigerian soldier, Lance Corporal Kenewenimo Lokoja (12NA/67/3446), has been dismissed from service for stealing a colleague’s mobile phone. According to a reliable source, the incident occurred during a course sponsored by the Nigerian Army.

Lokoja, who was recently promoted to the rank of Corporal, was scheduled to be officially decorated just days before his dismissal. However, his actions led to an immediate termination of his military career. A source revealed, “He was dismissed a day before his decoration as a Corporal for stealing a phone while on course.”

The case has highlighted growing concerns about misconduct among military personnel, sparking discussions on discipline within the ranks of the Nigerian Army.

This incident follows a troubling trend of internal disputes within the military. Earlier this year,  Sahara detailed another case where Private Yahaya Sani stabbed his colleague, Private Aliyu Musa, in Enugu. The altercation stemmed from accusations of phone theft, escalating to a violent attack. Sani, attached to the 74 Supply and Transportation Brigade, disarmed Musa and stabbed him in the head with a dagger. Musa is currently recovering in the 82 Division Military Hospital, while Sani remains in custody pending further investigation.

These incidents have raised questions about the effectiveness of conflict resolution and disciplinary measures within the armed forces. Critics argue that the military must address underlying issues of trust and professionalism among personnel to maintain its integrity.
