Nigerian police rescue human tr@ff!cking victims on their way to Libya

Police in Kano have rescued ten young people from different Nigerian states who were travelling to Libya.

The 10 human tr@ff!cking victims who were saved were turned over to the Kano Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on Thursday.

According to Mr. Abdullahi Babale, NAPTIP’s Zonal Commander, who received the victims from the police, a group of police officers led by CSP Bala Shuaibu rescued the victims from a residence in Kano’s Rijiyar Lemu Quarters on December 7 at approximately 2:40 p.m.

The rescued victims were between the ages of 22 and 42, consisting of four men and six women, Babale continued, adding that “they were on their way to Libya for labour exploitation.”

“The rescued victims are from Delta, Edo, Osun, Ogun, and Lagos states.” 

The zonal commander praised Mr. Salman Dogo-Garba, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, for his assistance and collaboration in the victims’ rescue.

In addition, he urged parents to protect their children from being exploited and enticed into sl@very in the pretext of pursuing a better life; he stated that the victims will receive counselling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their family.

He exhorted everyone to report any suspicious human tr@ff!cking situations in their neighbourhoods to the police.
