Nigerian Footballer Abubakar Lawal Di#s Following Tragic Road accident in Uganda

Abubakar Lawal, a Nigerian forward who played for Uganda’s Vipers Sports Club, tragically died on Monday, February 24, 2025, after being involved in a motorbike accident on Kampala’s Entebbe Road.

The 29-year-old was apparently travelling to a club training session after dropping off a friend at Entebbe Airport when the disaster occurred.

Lawal, who made eight league appearances this season, joined Vipers SC in July 2022 from Rwanda’s AS Kigali and was instrumental in their 2022–2023 Uganda Premier League title win.

Prior to relocating to East Africa, Lawal had a successful career in the Nigerian Premier League, playing for teams like Nasarawa United, Wikki Tourists FC, and Kano Pillars FC.

Vipers SC released an official statement expressing their profound sadness:

“We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this morning.

His body has been transferred to a medical facility for postmortem examination. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lawal’s family, club fans, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”

In addition to honouring his commitment and achievements to the game, football fans, teammates, and the community have been grieving his passing.

Vipers SC and the larger football community are both very saddened by Lawal’s passing.
