NDLEA Destroys Six-Hectare Hemp Farm in Ogun, Arrests Four Suspects
The National Dr¥g Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA, Ogun State command, reports that it has destroyed a six-hectare Indian hemp field in the state’s Alaka village as part of its ongoing fight against dr¥g trafficking.
The command also stated that investigations were still underway and that four people had been taken into custody in relation to the illegal cultivation. Tijani Rabe, the state commandant, revealed this during a press conference on Thursday in Abeokuta.
Although Rabe insisted that the agency’s 2024 performance report is the main focus of the conference, he did note that 675 dr¥g offenders were apprehended in the year.
The command also seized 537.81 litres of illegal chemicals with a liquid base and 9.7 tonnes of solid dr¥gs.
He said, “Operation Closed Gates was initiated as part of our Yuletide strategy and has yielded remarkable success.
It targeted dr¥g merchants and syndicates, effectively blocking access routes into the state.”
The NDLEA stepped up its public awareness initiatives in addition to its enforcement efforts, implementing 128 sensitisation programs in businesses, neighbourhoods, and schools.
“The agency estimates that approximately 27,648 people benefitted from these initiatives aimed at educating the public on the dangers of dr¥g ab¥se, and 221 convictions against dr¥g offenders were secured,” he added.
